MOST COMMONLY USED SOFTWARE'S IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

There are many software's available which are design and developed by different companies but following software's are the most commonly used software's in mechanical engineering. Designing is one of the most important branches of mechanical engineering and hence designing software's plays a very important role in it. Here are some of the most commonly used software's in mechanical engineering with some description.

AutoCAD:- AutoCAD is one of the most commonly used software in mechanical engineering. This software is Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and drafting software application which is developed and marketed by Autodesk company. This software can be used to create and edit 2D geometry and 3D models with solids, surfaces and mesh objects. It also has various applications like it can be used to automate mechanical engineering tasks, such as generating machine components, dimensioning and creating bills of material.since this software offers a wide range of designing features, hence it is widely used in mechanical engineering.

Solidworks:- This software is one of the most popular software among mechanical engineers. Companies related to mechanical engineering mostly use this software to design and to solid modelling of their product. This software is very easy to use and you can design and model any product or component on this software and later you can do assembly also. If you are a beginner you can start modelling this software by drawing 2D sketch which may consist of geometry such as points, lines, arcs, splines etc. And you can start with 3D sketch if you are a power user.

Creo Parametric:- Creo parametric is CAD-CAM software which is used to design a particular product. You can also make machine components and later you can do the assembly too. It differs from AutoCAD in such a way that it is based on Parametric which means all the dimensions are Parametric which affect the actual part. For example, let us consider a line drawn in AutoCAD and creo both. Now if we change the dimensions of the line then in AutoCAD it will not affect the line but in creo, it will also change the line. That's the Parametric.

CATIA:- CATIA stands for Computer-Aided Three Dimensional Interactive Application. It is a multiplatform software which can be used for computer-aided design (CAD),computer-aided manufacturing (CAM),computer-aided engineering (CAE) and for 3D modelling too. This software is used in the design of various objects such as vehicles, buildings, machine components etc.

Ansys:- Ansys is a Mechanical finite element analysis software is used to simulate computer models of structures, electronics, or machine components for analyzing the strength, toughness, elasticity, temperature distribution, electromagnetism, fluid flow, and other attributes. Ansys is used to determine how a product will function with different specifications, without building test products or conducting crash tests. For example, Ansys software may simulate how a bridge will hold up after years of traffic, how to best process salmon in a cannery to reduce waste, or how to design a slide that uses less material without sacrificing safety.
